The GoodBye Chain Group

The updated WEEE directive, adopted on June 7, 2012, came into force on August 13, 2012. The timeline for the directive is as follows:

  • February 14, 2014: Member States must amend existing WEEE legislation and align it with the new Directive.
  • No later than February 14, 2014, a reversed burden of proof will apply to shipments of used equipment which are suspected to be illegal waste shipments.
  • 2016: Member States are required to ensure that 45% of EEE sold in each country.
  • 2018: WEEE scope to include all electrical and electronic equipment.
  • 2019: Collection target to be raised to 65% of EEE sold, or the alternative measure of 85% of WEEE generated.
